Learn How Carrie Underwood Wakes Up With a Flat Belly

With a 10-month-old son| an upcoming album| and an activewear line| it seems as though Carrie Underwood can do it all. We know what it takes to get that rocking figure and clearly| her postbaby body tells all. At 32| Carrie takes serious care of herself| whether it’s finishing up Tabata paired with a three-mile run or squeezing in a workout at the playground. So it’s no wonder she’s the covergirl of Shape magazine’s November issue| to hit newsstands on Oct. 20. Read on for quotes from the country superstar on flat belly-tips| postpartum weight| and more.

On her postbaby weight: u201cAfter I had Isaiah| my goal was to take control of my body again. I was lucky: I gained only 30 pounds| which is the recommended amount| and I exercised throughout my pregnancy. I did have a C-section| which meant waiting six weeks before working out. Within 20 days| though| I was able to begin walking slowly on the treadmill and around my neighborhood. It felt so good to be active! Now we box and we hike trails| among other things. I like to continually mix up my routines to stay motivated.u201d

On how she gets her figure: u201cMy favorite workout is Tabata| which I can do at home in about a half hour. Iu2019m in love with it! Itu2019s hard| but it really works. I choose seven different exercises| like squats| lunges| or pushups| and do eight rounds of each u2013 20 seconds on| 20 seconds off for eight rounds. It really revs up my metabolism. When Iu2019m done| I can handle anything.u201d

On waking up with a flat belly: u201cIu2019m vegan and I love bread| but recently| I started making dinner a breadless meal. Iu2019ll have a bowl of oatmeal for breakfast| and Iu2019ll make a sandwich on Ezekiel bread for lunch| but in the evening Iu2019ll have protein and vegetables and no bread. When I wake up| my belly is flat!u201d

On what she looks for in activewear: u201cSince I exercise almost every day| I like wearing clothes that look just as good on the street as they do at the gym. Iu2019ve always been an athletic-wear fanatic| but everything I owned was either super-functional and not cute| or really frilly and not right for my workout. I need exercise clothing that I can actually work out in but that also looks great if I meet a friend for coffee afterward. Thatu2019s why I created Calia . . . and now I wear it everywhere.u201d

On staying balanced: u201cI think itu2019s important to sit quietly every day for 10 minutes. In the morning| I enjoy my cup of coffee and plan the day in my head to be ready for it. And sometimes at night| I sip a glass of red wine and just relax. Iu2019ve learned to give myself a break.u201d

Lea Michele Dishes About Her Active Lifestyle and Reveals Her 2 Favorite Workouts

Glee and now Scream Queens star Lea Michele graces the November cover of thoughts on body image and self-confidence. On being outdoors: u201cIu2019m really close with Becca [Tobin]| who was on Glee with me| and we go hiking all the time|”” she says. “”I hike on trails about four times a week; I love being outside.”” Her costar isnu2019t the only one she turns to for an alfresco workout partner. Lea recently recruited boyfriend Matthew Paetz| a friend| and her palu2019s fiancu00e9 for a wellness retreat in Malibu| CA| that involved scaling advanced trails for four days straight. “”‘The feeling on day one was like| u2018I did iiiiit! I am the strongest person on the planeeeeet!u2019 she says. u201cDay three or four was more like| u2018Iu2019m in pain. This is horrible. Dear god| just get to that bush. Get to the bush| then get to the rock . . .u2019u201d

On yoga: “”I go back and forth between hiking and hot yoga. Hot yoga is my absolute favorite. I started in New York doing bikram yoga with Jonathan Groff and now I love the studios out here and I do it all the time. Iu2019m really obsessed.””

u201c[Becca and I] also do hot yoga; I like exercises that have a little spirituality to them. Itu2019s the greatest combination of meditation| detox| and a fantastic workout.u201d

On maintaining balance: “”When I get stressed| I think that| for me| I just live a very active life. No matter what| if I can just go for a nice hike| or if I can have a little glass of wine| or eat good food| that always is my best medicine.””

On Pilates: u201cEmma Roberts introduced me to Pilates in New Orleans|”” she says. While in the Big Easy filming Scream Queens| the costars have been hitting up Romney Pilates Center multiple times a week| switching up sessions on the Cadillac or reformer machines with floor-based workouts using BOSU balls or TRX straps.

On good eating: Lea has always had a healthy perspective on food and never relied on it as a stress soother u2014 but she doesnu2019t follow a strict diet| either. Whether sheu2019s keeping vegan (at home)| vegetarian (often on the road)| or neither (if she can get hold of responsibly raised meat)| Lea focuses on quality ingredients| especially when sheu2019s dabbling in her two biggest vices: wine and cheese. “”I love eating| but I eat what fuels me|”” she says. “”And if itu2019s not gonna fuel me| then itu2019ll fuel my soul u2014 like pizza.””

On the positive effects of journaling: “”Itu2019s funny because I had never been a big journaler. It always intimidated me and I would see people journaling and Iu2019m like| u2018What? What are you gonna write? What do you have to say?u2019 But I was always a big list maker and as I got older I realized that putting things down on paper really does help to create a positive energy and manifest these things| and then you also have something that you have to u2014 it gives you more of an attempt or effort to actually make it happen. So this is a guided journal workbook for people who might be intimated to journal or people who love journaling. It helps through the guided questions to help you explore deeper inside yourself| whether you want to be writing down your fitness goals or you want to be writing down a five-year plan| or just good memories u2014 something that you can look back on u2014 thereu2019s really something in there for everyone.””

John Goodman’s Dramatic Weight Loss Will Shock You

John Goodman stepped onto the red carpet in London for the Trumbo premiere looking better than ever. The 63-year-old actor, who’s admitted to David Letterman that he once weighed 400 pounds, appears to have lost almost half his previous bodyweight. John’s weight-loss journey has fluctuated over the years, but he attributes his success this time around to diet and exercise. In 2011, he cut out sugar and worked out six days a week, shedding 100 pounds. He told People at the time, “It takes a lot of creative energy to sit on your ass and figure out what you’re going to eat next . . . I wanted to live life better.”

By the looks of his new figure, John’s longtime struggle since being told by doctors a decade ago to lose weight has paid off. It’s no news that slimming down is a difficult process, and we applaud the Hollywood veteran for his incredible success. Compare his most recent photo to one from just a year ago!

Victoria Justice Reveals Her Favorite Workouts and Struggle With Hashimoto’s Disease

Singer, actress, and former Nickelodeon star Victoria Justice stars on the cover of Health magazine’s November issue, glowing and toned. The 22-year-old opens up in an interview about being diagnosed with Hashimoto’s disease, an autoimmune disorder, and how its affected her diet, weight, and self-confidence. Read ahead for quotes from Victoria on her favorite workouts and ways she stays balanced.

On her struggles with Hashimoto’s disease: “A few years ago, I was diagnosed with Hashimoto’s, which is a thyroid autoimmune disorder. . . . This Korean acupuncturist put me on a super-strict diet, where I was a pescatarian¡. I also couldn’t eat any sugar, wheat or dairy. . . .They had put me on this thyroid medication, and I think the levels were too high for me because it caused my skin to break out. . . .Also, at first, I was losing a lot of weight, then I went on tour and I started gaining weight, and it was the most I’d ever gained in my life. I was, like, 115 pounds. Then when I filmed a movie last summer, I actually went under 100 pounds. It was crazy, but things have leveled out, and I’m back to normal.”On her self-confidence: “It definitely did affect my confidence, and it made me a little bit more self-conscious. But at the end of the day, I had the support of my family and friends. I knew that the people around me had my back. Now I really empathize with people who have issues with their skin, because it can get you down.”On her workouts: “I love taking classes to switch it up, so I’ll do a dancing class or a twerk class¡. It’s actually a really great workout. After 10 minutes of twerking, your thighs and your butt feel it right away. [Laughs] But it’s so much fun. You feel free. It’s like, ‘Who cares? I’m twerking!'”On how she stays centered: “I try to meditate every day. It’s important to take that time, even if it’s just 10 minutes, to block everything out and get grounded again. And I love to lie on my hammock and read things that are inspirational and motivational, whether it’s a self-help book or an autobiography.”Image Source: Health
