Ellie Goulding Just Shared Her Fitness Routine and It’s Intense
Ellie Goulding is having a killer month: the 28-year-old British pop star released her new album Delirium on Nov. 6| performed at the Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show| and graced the latest cover of Shape. In the magazine’s December issue| Goulding talked about her love of high-intensity interval training| the difference between strong and skinny| and what it means to be an “”aspiring”” vegan.
On HIIT: “”I feel so exhilarated after working out. Thatu2019s what gets me motivated and what will drag me out of bed. When Iu2019m not on the road| my trainer comes to my house a few times a week and we go for a run outdoors and then do weight training. Or I go to his Barryu2019s Bootcamp class. I like it because you spend half the session running and half doing weight-and-floor work. Itu2019s really good for endurance| and it keeps me super focused. I also take another class thatu2019s 45 minutes of HIIT training| which is by far the hardest thing Iu2019ve ever done. I come out of there feeling like something big just happened to my body| and Iu2019m completely drained. Of all the workouts Iu2019ve done| this has been the best for me.””
On her diet: “”I call myself an aspiring vegan. Itu2019s challenging| but not impossible. You just have to eat or drink a lot of greens. I make green juice for myself almost every day. I put in things like bananas| avocado| spinach| broccoli u2014 whateveru2019s in my fridge| really. Sweet-potato fries and salad is my absolute favorite thing. Itu2019s the perfect meal. I eat a lot of quinoa and nuts too| but I also love eating chips. Itu2019s actually easy to be a bad vegan because a lot of junk foods are vegan!””
On body image: “”If getting stronger means getting more toned and slimmer| so be it| as long as strength comes with it. Iu2019m happy with my figure. Iu2019ve never intended or tried to be skinny. Itu2019s my not thing.””

Ellie Goulding’s Fitness Tips Aren’t as Hard as You Think
Ellie Goulding has always struck me as someone who genuinely loves to work out| but it wasn’t until seeing her at this year’s N+TC Tour LA (which I attended as a guest of Nike) that I understood how much her life is focused on health. It was during an interview before the night’s festivities that Ellie touched on the importance of fitness in her day-to-day routine. It’s empowered her to be better in all aspects of her life and continues to challenge her in ways she previously thought unimaginable. It’s also what gives her the energy to keep going through major tours and back-to-back shows.
As someone who struggles to make it to the gym four times a week| I was impressed at how Ellie is able to find time to work out despite her crazy schedule. Lucky for me| Ellie’s tips are simple to follow u2014u00a0no fancy trainer or high-priced gym required.

Ellie travels a lot| and whether she’s on tour or attending an events like Fashion Week| she makes fitness a priority. Her piece of advice is to book a hotel that has a gym u2014u00a0even better if it’s open around the clock. When Ellie is dealing with jet lag| popping down to the gym is the perfect way for her to unwind.
If you don’t have access to a gym| book a class at a local fitness studio (Ellie’s partial to Barry’s Bootcamp) or lace up your shoes and head outside. Going on a run or hike is an excellent way to get familiar with an unknown city.

While she has no problem going at it solo| Ellie is a huge fan of working out with someone; it helps motivate her and holds her accountable. “The best way to push your limits is to find a buddy who will push you further|”” Ellie said. “”You work for them.””

If you’re not careful| your fitness routine can be what hurts your body instead of helps. It was after rounding out her fitness routine with Pilates and yoga that Ellie realized her intense training regimen was putting too much stress on her body.

Alongside her boyfriend (British rock star Dougie Poynter) and famed celebrity trainer Derek DeGrazio| Goulding helped inspire her seriously starstruck classmates to accomplish their 2015 fitness goals.
