Earlier this month, Hanro of Switzerland, along with Nigel Barker, Fiona Byrne, and Selita Ebanks, hosted an intimate VIP celebration for the unveiling of a custom mural by artist, Izak Zenou, at its New York City Flagship store in the Meatpacking District.

The custom mural by Izak Zenou was painted directly on the walls of the Hanro of Switzerland’s flagship, over the course of four days. Izak’s hand painted mural pays homage to Hanro’s heritage and an engaging view into the spirited women who inspire him. This is the latest artist collaboration in Hanro’s on-going public art campaign.

Claps and cheers from members of the Ziegfeld Club and the Hanky Panky creative team answered Laurie.

A critical part of that call is helping and empowering women in the musical theatre and everyone Laurie addressed worked to keep that mission alive.

Last week members of the Ziegfeld Club and Hanky Panky came together at the Player’s Club Dining Hall in New York City to celebrate their collaboration: the Hanky Panky After Midnight® presents Ziegfeld Follies collection.

The new pieces (launching September 2016) were inspired by the performers of the legendary Ziegfeld Follies like Billie Burke and Josephine Baker.

The collection and its launch are designed to bring attention back to the Ziegfeld Club and their mission to support and encourage women in performing arts.

Pieces are imbued with the spirit of those Ziegfeld stars and include beautiful styles like a peacock feather embroidered bralette and thong combo and a fringed shimmy set with matching armbands.

Guests were treated to a sneak peek of three pieces on mannequins: the Josephine Chain Back Bodysuit, the fringetastic Lillian set, and Billie Bikini.

Besides seeing the new Hanky Panky pieces, one of the most exciting things attendees were able to witness that evening was the direct impact the Ziegfeld Club makes.

After Laurie spoke, the Club’s recent Billie Burke Award Winner, Masi Asare took the stage.

“[The Billie Burke Award] transformed my life,” said Masi. “As a result, I have an agent for the first time in my life, recorded a professional demo and that demo opened up an opportunity at a theater in London.”

Masi was then joined by Tiffany Chalothorn and pianist, Lisa DeSpain to perform a piece from Masi’s play, Sympathy Jones, the story of a young woman who dreams of being a star…a star spy.

After Masi, Tiffany and Lisa took a bow, two models walked towards the stage. One model showed off the Hanky Panky After Midnight® presents Ziegfeld Follies collection’s Lillian set. Next to her, a young woman showed off a replica of a Ziegfeld Follies 1920s Show Girl Costume.

Wacoal Europe Sells Huit

Wacoal Europe has today announced that it has sold the lingerie and swimwear brand Huit and it will no longer be a part of its group portfolio.

This difficult decision has been made in line with Wacoal Europe’s strategy to grow its European and international presence, to strengthen its substantial fuller bust business and to continue growing the Wacoal brand.

Wacoal Europe acquired the French lingerie and swimwear brand Huit out of administration in 2010 and since this time has invested heavily in trying to improve its success. Indeed the business has helped the brand to expand its distribution base, further developed its swimwear offering and helped to improve the brands performance. Despite this, a very challenging and highly saturated competitor market has meant the business has resisted any significant growth.

Wacoal Europe has revealed that after many offers to buy the business, an agreement with a new investor has been reached and Huit has been purchased by Trendy Capital, owner of the nightwear brand Canat. With effect from 9th July, under its new ownership the Huit business will be known as Huit France.

Wacoal Europe Chief Executive Geoff Embley said: “This has been a difficult decision but we believe this is the best decision in the long term for our customers, the employees of Huit and the Huit Brand. We are market leaders in our industry and have made every effort to grow and develop the brand. Importantly, we have taken every step we can to ensure the Huit business is protected and has a future.”

Wacoal Europe will now continue to support the Huit business for the next two seasons across all of its markets to ensure a smooth transition including the UK, Eire, USA, Canada, Australia, Denmark, Sweden, Norway, Germany and its distributors in Asia.
